Here’s the same speech as last time, however just the full-speed version. For interpreting students who want to attempt an advanced note-taking exercise. Also a good one to practice a bit of simultaneous interpretation. Note: The speech starts STRAIGHT AWAY.

If you want to practice with slower versions of this speech, find them here.

Topic(s): Human Resources, Public Service

Terms: x-ray, Hospital, treatment, steering wheel, knee, swollen

Interpreting Training: Check these books to learn and practice interpretation.

Good For Practicing:

  • Interpreting note-taking
  • Public Service Interpreting (PSI)
  • Dialogue Interpreting
  • English accent
  • Advanced level

Also available on Speechpool.

Before You See The Script

If you’ve found this post helpful or think it could be useful to a friend who perhaps is – or is planning to become – an interpreter, please kindly consider buying me a coffee by using the button below:

I put all my heart and soul into the content I produce in order to help my fellow linguists set foot in the industry. Most of what I do is available to everyone for free.

Donating is 100% optional, but greatly appreciated. A short espresso will do! ☕

Script*:

*Please check the script only after you’ve done the note-taking exercise, otherwise that’s cheating! 🙂

Context: This employee didn’t show up for work and her boss tried to call her to ask what was happening. The employee returns the call, but it goes straight to voicemail, so she leaves the following message:

‘Good morning, sorry I missed your call.

The reason why I didn’t show up for work today was a car accident I had yesterday.

I was driving home after work and stopped at a red light, when someone behind me crashed their car against mine.

I hit my head against the steering wheel and somehow also injured my right knee.

My head is fine, but then my knee started to get swollen, so I came to the Hospital this morning.

I’ll be doing an x-ray at 1pm or so, but the doctor already said the knee looks terrible and I should go home after the x-ray instead of going to work.

I texted Christine to inform her, but I didn’t know she’s gone on holidays, so I think that was the problem.

I am very sorry for the miscommunication.

My knee is hurting a lot at the moment and I don’t know when I’ll be back. I may need additional time off to undergo treatment, but I’ll confirm that once I get the x-ray results.

Sorry once again and thank you for your support. I’ll call you again with an update later today.’
